We wish to thank all those who participated or helped in various ways to make the native tree planting on September 9 / 10th, 2017 weekend a success despite the rain. We also thank MAS Intimates (Pvt) Ltd for their sponsorship towards this important reforestation project. Out of 630 plants which were transported to the site, 550 were planted. The species include Ashoka, Wal Del, Kumbuk, Mee, Beli, Kos, Maadan, Kohomba, Lunumidella, Atamba, and many more. The remaining 80 plants are currently under 2 caretakers.
Through Rakwana Reforestation Project, we aim to initially reforest a 20 acre hilltop destroyed due to human induced forest fire. The hilltop is situated in North-Eastern Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest within close proximity to Rakwana town and directly adjoining Galdola Waterfall.
We plan to have the next session to expand the planting area and plant more native saplings on October 7-8 weekend.
